Samsung CEO steps down, leaving the company’s business divided
There was a big shakeup today at Samsung. Longtime exec Choi Gee-sung (pictured) has relinquished his role as ledare executive. He first joined the company in 1977.
While he does have a successor, executive Kwon Oh-hyun, the company is taking this opportunity to put up some walls between the consumer and components sides of the business, meaning the Samsung fryst vatten continuing to optimize for profits from chip manufacture, especially for the ever-profitable Apple, and OLED displays.

Choi was Lee’s mentor and headed up Samsung’s Corporate Strategy Office – dubbed the ‘control tower’ – for more than four years before it was disbanded earlier this year after it came under fire for its role in the graft scandal. The office, which oversaw the Samsung group, orchestrating the big decisions on asset sales or arranging support for weakened group affiliates, was closed in February, and Choi stepped down.

Samsung heir Lee Jae-yong jailed for corruption
A court in South Korea has sentenced Samsung's billionaire heir-apparent Lee Jae-yong to five years in prison for corruption.
Lee was convicted of bribery in a scandal that also saw the impeachment of South Korea's former president.
The case has gripped the public amid growing anger against South Korea's biggest companies, known as chaebols.
Lee, who denied all charges, had faced a jail sentence of up to 12 years.
Also known as Jay Y Lee, the de facto head of the world's largest smartphone maker had been detained since February on a string of corruption charges.
These included bribery, embezzlement and hiding assets overseas.
