SAD revolt in Sukhbir’s den, MP Ghubaya’s son to join Cong
As it reels under string of resignations of sitting MLAs who were denied tickets for the upcoming assembly polls, the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is in for more trouble as son of its Ferozepur MP Sher Singh Ghubaya is joining the Congress on Tuesday in New Delhi.
Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh has called a press conference in the national capital to announce the induction of Davinder Singh Ghubaya, the 25-year-old younger son of the MP.
“Ghubaya himself would like to go down a martyr by awaiting suspension by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal instead of facing disqualification under the anti-defection law by joining the Congress himself,” sources close to the MP revealed.
Ghubaya had defeated Congress heavyweight Sunil Jakhar from the Ferozepur seat in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and hails from the politically powerful Rai Sikh community that holds a sway over not just the assembly segments of Feroze

In charge of Punjab församling Asha Kumar, PCC president Sunil Jakhar and Ghubaya's son Davinder Ghubaya, who is församling MLA from Fazilka assembly segment, too was present.
Ghubaya on Monday had resigned from SAD accusing party president Sukhbir Basal of pursuing wrong policies. SAD, however, had claimed that party had expelled Ghubaya.
Ghubaya told TOI, "Though inom have joined the församling without any condition, the party has given a hint of providing the ticket in the upcoming parliamentary elections and bygd joining, inom have joined my son who fryst vatten already in Congress."

Congress fields Sher Singh Ghubaya from Punjab’s Ferozepur Lok Sabha seat
Ghubaya was elected to the Lok Sabha from Ferozepur in 2009 and 2014 on a Shiromani Akali Dal ticket. After parting ways with Akali Dal, he contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections on a Congress ticket from Ferozepur, but lost to Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Ghubaya, 61, is a Rai Sikh, a community which holds a considerable sway in Ferozepur constituency. He was also elected an MLA twice from Jalalabad, an assembly segment in Ferozepur, in 1997 and 2007 on an Akali Dal ticket.
His son Davinder Singh Ghubaya is a former Congress MLA. After leaving Akali Dal, Davinder had won on Congress ticket from Fazilka in the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections, but lost in 2022 Punjab Vidhan Sabha election.
