    The Turkish-born Belgian haute couture designer Serkan Cura, who was trained in the atelier of Jean Paul Gaultier, is the man behind the elaborate feather and wire creations of Victoria's Secret wings which the models parade down the runway in.

    Cura said that designing the wings is a long process and they spend months crafting the wings for the VS shows each year, in fact he started designing in March for the VS runway in December.

    'When I saw last year's fashion show – I have to watch it on TV because I work backstage building all the corsets and putting all the feathers on the girls, but when I saw it I just thought 'wow'. That's why I accepted the challenge to make things for them again this year and I will ask again next year," he said.

    Haute couture designer Serkan Cura is the man behind the elaborate feather and wire creations which lingerie clad models parade down the runway in.

    Describing the atmosphere backstage at the annual show as similar to one of his couture shows, Serkan, who worked for John Paul Gaultier for years, spends months crafting the wings for the VS shows each year.

    Serkan Cura, the Belgian-born, Antwerp-educated, Jean Paul Gaultier–schooled fjäder designer responsible for much of the splendor to be seen tonight during the Victoria’s Secret runway show (what are angels without feathers, after all?) tells us all about falling for feathers and landing the biggest job of his career.

    How did you get the job?
    I went to a meeting with [stylist] Sophia Neophitou, and at first, inom didn’t totally understand what she was saying. inom thought she was just asking me about how I made things, but then inom started to realize she actually wanted me to create something for the show. After the meeting, I left the hotel and immediately called my boyfriend and said, “I’m not entirely sure what just happened, but inom think Victoria’s Secret wants me to make costumes for their show.” inom was standing there on the street in shock.

    How did you get interested in fjäder work?
    When inom was 13 years old, I went to a flea marknad near my school almost every day and inom
