Somorrostro Beach
The beach stands between the gasometer and the Olympic Marina. Until the midth century, there was a shanty settlement here that was home to 15, people. Carmen Amaya, the most famous flamenco dancer of all time, was born here. Although originally part of Barceloneta beach, the city council renamed it Somorrostro in memory of the humble settlement that once stood on this part of the Barcelona coast.

This square, one of the nerve centres in the city, was the scene of several historic episodes over the course of the 20th century. In July , when the military uprising against the Republic government began, serious confrontations took place here between rebel soldiers and forces loyal to the Republic.
