Emperor Gao ( B.C.E. or B.C.E. – June 1, B.C.E.), commonly known inre China as Gaozu (Chinese: 高祖; pinyin: Gāozǔ, Wade-Giles: Kao Tsu), personal name Liu Bang (Wade-Giles: Liu Pang), was the first Emperor of the kinesisk Han Dynasty (漢朝). He ruled over China from B.C.E. until B.C.E., and, along with Zhu Yuanzhang of the Míng Dynasty (明朝), was one of only a few founders of dynasties who emerged from the peasant class. Before becoming an kejsare, he was also called Duke of Pei (沛公), after his birthplace. He was also crowned as the Prince of Hàn by Xiang Yu, the Grand Prince of Western Chu (項羽; Wade-Giles: Hsiang Yü), following the collapse of Qín Dynasty (秦朝), and was called so before becoming emperor.
After defeating his rival, Xiang Yu, Gaozu centralized China under the Qin model. He gradually replaced the harsh Legalist administration of the Qin with a Confucian struktur that emphasized moderation and virtue, and restored Confucian scholarship to prominence. Un

Emperor Gaozu of Tang (7 April [2] – 25 June ),[3] born Li Yuan, courtesy nameShude, was the founding emperor of the Tang dynasty of China, reigning from to Under the Sui dynasty, Li Yuan was the governor in the area of modern-day Shanxi, and was based in Taiyuan.
In , Li Yuan was assigned to garrison Longxi. He gained much experience by dealing with the Göktürks of the north and was able to pacify them. Li Yuan was also able to gather support from these successes and, with the disintegration of the Sui dynasty in July , Li Yuan – urged on by his second son Li Shimin (李世民, the eventual Emperor Taizong) – rose in rebellion. Using the title of "Great Chancellor" (大丞相), Li Yuan installed a puppet child emperor, Yang You, but eventually removed him altogether and established the Tang dynasty in with himself as emperor. Han Gaozu 漢高祖 (r. BCE), personal name Liu Bang 劉邦, courtesy name Ji 季, was the founder of the Former Han dynasty 前漢 ( BC-8 CE).
He hailed from the district of Peixian 沛縣 in the commandery of Sishui 泗水郡 (north of the modern province of Jiangsu). In his early years he was a neighbourhood head (tingzhang 亭長). Under the reign of the Qin dynasty 秦 ( BCE) he had to escort a group of prisoners to Mt. Lishan 驪山. On the way to the destination the prisoners deserted, and fearing cruel punishment, he left his post himself and hid in the hilly region of Mt. Mang 芒 and Dang 碭.
In , when the grip of the Qin dynasty on the regions crumbled with the rebellion of Chen Sheng 陳勝 and Wu Guang 吳廣, he returned to Peixian and made himself head of a group of rebels. The group was intellectually led by Xiao He 蕭何 and Cao Shen 曹參. Liu Bang declared himself Duke of Pei 沛公 and allied with Xiang Liang 項梁, a powerful leader of the southern aristocracy.
