Her sister Meena Khadikar looks back with love, and tells Subhash K Jha, 'We cannot thank her enough for what she has done for us.'

Meena Khadikar had a very special gift for her sister Lata Mangeshkar on her 90th birthday.
She put out a Hindi translation of her biography on her illustrious sister.
"It was called Mothi Tichi Savali in Marathi. In Hindi, I've named it Didi Aur Main. There are so many biographies on Didi but nobody knows her the way I do," she says.

"I've virtually been her savali (shadow) from childhood, watched her struggles and triumphs. I have seen and experienced her emotions and feelings from close quarters. Who better qualified than me to write about her?" reasons Meena, who gave up singing 60 years ago to look after her home and children, Rachna and Yog

Lata Mangeshkar
Lata Mangeshkar is one of the legendary playback singers in India. Her career started in 1942 and has spanned over seven decades.
Mangeshkar has recorded songs for over a thousand Hindi films and has sung songs in over thirty-six regional Indian languages and foreign languages, though primarily in Marathi and Hindi. She is the elder sister of singers Asha Bhosle, Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar and Meena Mangeshkar.
India's highest award in cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, was bestowed on her in 1989 by the Government of India. She also has been awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour.
In 1974, The Guinness Book of Records listed Lata Mangeshkar as the most recorded artist in the history, stating that she had reportedly recorded "not less than 25,000 solo, duet and chorus backed songs in 20 Indian languages" between 1948 and 1974.

Legendary singer late Lata Mangeshkar had a great interest in cooking and she loved watching food shows, recall chefs who were fortunate to interact with her and serve her their food
Lata Mangeshkar’s zest for life was infectious. And it often reflected in her kitchen that emanated delicious aroma every time she took to cooking with great enthusiasm.
Despite being particular about her food choices and practising discipline while eating, she loved to indulge in her favourite delicacies once in a while. Owing to her Konkani roots, spicy seafood dishes were her favourite. Her father, Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar was from the by of Mangeshi in Goa. Mangeshkar also loved mutton preparations flavoured with zesty spices.
