James Thurston "Jim" Nabors (June 12, 1930 – November 30, 2017) was an Americansinger, television, and movieactor. He was best known for his role as Gomer Pyle on the TV programsThe Andy Griffith Show and Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. Nabors was the host of two programs. They were The Jim Nabors Hour and The Jim Nabors Show.

Nabors was also a guest star in The Steve Allen Show, The Danny Kaye Show, The Muppet Show and The Carol Burnett Show. He won a Golden Raspberry Award for his role as Lugs Harvey in the movie Stroker Ace.

Nabors was born in Sylacauga, Alabama on June 12, 1930. Nabors was educated at the University of Alabama.

Actor and singer Jim Nabors was born in Sylacauga, Alabama, in 1930. Plagued by poor health, which prevented him from playing sports in school, Nabors took to the scen. Nabors gained national recognition playing the lovable gas attendant, Gomer Pyle, first on The Andy Griffith Show, and later on the CBS spinoff Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. A versatile performer, Nabors recorded more than 30 albums. He died on November 30, 2017, at age 87.

Few actors epitomized the aw-shucks country boy persona better than Emmy-nominated actor and singer Jim Nabors. He won over television audiences in the early 1960s with a unique dual talent - wide-eyed, rural-based comedy that occasionally gave way to a rich, florid baritone singing voice. Nabors parlayed his skills on countless variety programs before Andy Griffith tapped him to play naïve gas pump jockey Gomer Pyle on "The Andy Griffith Show" (CBS, 1960-68). The character proved so popular with viewers that Nabors was granted his own sitcom, "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C."
